I take your full health history and give you a postural assessment. Please wear loose fitting comfortable clothing; jogging wear is ideal. My treatments are gentle without any form of manipulation or high velocity thrusts.
During your treatment you may be asked to sit on a chair, to stand briefly or to lie down on a treatment couch depending on the techniques I use. You receive a post- treatment assessment which confirms any positive changes.
For backpain I recommend wherever possible specific gentle yoga-based spinal exercises which I follow up on by email.
COMBINATION TREATMENT FEES - £70. Please allow up to one hour.

NEUROMUSCULAR RELEASE (Australian Soft Tissue Technique)
Acute - and chronic muscular pain relief and neurological symptoms, Cornwall
This is a gentle form of muscle release therapy. The technique is used to address muscular pain and discomfort and can help to improve body movement. It has been suggested that the body reacts in a similar way to the workings of a touch - screen. Small sensors allow access to the brain via specific points on the body which can directly influence muscle actions. The result is frequently a prompt and positive physical change. Apart from Neck Pain, Shoulder Pain, Headaches, Back Pain, Repetitive Strain Injuries (RSI’s) and Carpel Tunnel Syndrome, it is extremely beneficial for Hip Pain, Jaw Pain (after dental work) or Trigeminal Nerve Syndrome (TNS), Arm Pain, Leg Pain, Knee-, Calf- and Foot Pain. It is an excellent treatment for non-athletes and athletes, e. g. Riders, Golfers, Cyclists, Water sports enthusiasts and Gym aficionados. Clients with neurological conditions such as Stroke, Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson's have frequently noticed positive changes in their flexibility, balance, pain levels and movement ranges. Neurological symptoms include hearing and eyesight issues, swallowing problems, pins, and needles, bowel-and/or bladder problems, drop foot and walking difficulties.
SHIATSU ACUPRESSURE
Acute - and chronic muscular pain relief and neurological symptoms, Cornwall
Shiatsu Acupressure applies the same principles as acupuncture in the treatment of physical pain. It is based on Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and its health philosophy. Pain is viewed as an important early warning sign of the body which encourages us to take charge of our health.
TCM is based on the idea that ‘energy’ flows throughout the body in channels or pathways called "meridians". The 12 major meridians are connected to specific organs which organise a system of communication throughout your body. According to TCM dis-ease manifests when one of these meridians is blocked or out of balance. Along the meridians are "points" of access where energy can be manipulated to benefit your health.
Treatment is received fully clothed from a treatment couch. Frequently I combine acupressure (gentle finger pressure) with stretches, mobilisation techniques and massage. The techniques I use are either experienced as stimulating and invigorating or calming or sedative, depending on your individual treatment plan. It can be very beneficial to take a look at how any symptoms of pain and discomfort affect your daily life. Often it is helpful to re-evaluate your nutrition, to review your current lifestyle and to discuss and possibly include some form of exercise which fits in well with your daily routine and brings you relaxation and enjoyment. An understanding of the reasons which may predispose you to certain physical symptoms can give you the impetus to implement easy lifestyle changes.
SPORTS MASSAGE
Acute - and chronic muscular pain relief and neurological symptoms, Cornwall
Typically a Sports Massage can feel quite vigorous and uncomfortable especially when muscles feel tight and sore. Commonly I predominantly use Neuromuscular Release and Massage on identified muscles in favour of a conventional Sports Massage. This is a gentler remedial approach with excellent results in improved joint flexibility and greater range of motion (ROM).
Sports Massage is the management, manipulation and rehabilitation of soft tissues including muscles, tendons and ligaments and it is not only used by professional athletes! Millions of people around the world exercise and play sports from the elite professional athlete to the novice on a walking programme. You may be a gym aficionado, a rider, swimmer, runner, dancer or into golf, football, tennis or cycling. Likewise you may have a job or a lifestyle which simply requires you to exercise regularly to maintain physical fitness.
LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE - Please allow up to 45 mins £50 (6 sessions £240)
The lymphatic system is a network of tissues and organs that help rid the body of toxins, waste and other unwanted materials. When under stress our body is forced to manufacture and secrete excess stress-fighting hormones to boost energy. Stress creates an exhausting chemistry within our body which can leave us feeling drained. Once fatigued the body does not have the ability to remain calm under stress. Constant restless which can cause insomnia along with long-term depletion and exhaustion can lead to chronic fatigue, mood issues and irritability.
At this stage we tend to feel sluggish lacking in energy to get through the day. As toxins accumulate in our body cells are unable to function properly and as a result we are less able to fight infections and disease. Signs of poor lymph flow can include:
- Soreness and/or stiffness in the morning
- Swollen lymph glands
- Recurrent infections
- Feeling tired, lack of energy
- Bloating
- Itchy skin
- Fluid retention (lymphoedema)
- Breast swelling or soreness with each cycle
- Dry skin
- Brain fog
- Cold hands and feet
Lymphatic drainage can encourage better sleep and enhance energy levels, improved digestion, circulation and breathing. Lymphatic Drainage is beneficial for the following conditions:
- Post- operatively - to help reduce swelling and to support healing
- Post viral or bacterial infections or if you suffer from sinus conditions
- Post minor or major illness (e.g. glandular fever, cancer)
- Hypertension
- Diabetes
THERAPEUTIC MASSAGE
Massage therapy is becoming more widely accepted in the medical community as a credible treatment for many types of back pain and/or as an adjunct to other medical treatments. Massage therapy has several potential health benefits including:
- Increased blood flow and circulation. This aids in recovery of muscle soreness from physical activity or soft tissue injury (such as muscle strain).
- Decreased tension in the muscles. Muscle relaxation can improve flexibility, reduce pain caused by tight muscles and even improve sleep.
- Increased endorphin levels--the "feel good" chemicals in the brain. This mood enhancer can ease depression and anxiety, change your perception of pain and speed up recovery.
“I visited Andrea having been recommended by another patient of hers. I am very glad I did! Having regularly seen an osteopath for several years for ongoing treatment of Scheuermann’s disease, I wanted to learn how to manage the condition myself. Andrea helped me achieve exactly that. She treated my musculoskeletal imbalances and taught me an extensive range of beneficial exercises which I practice daily and enjoy. The results were instantly noticeable and I’d be very happy to recommend Andrea.”
Chris Clifford, Truro, Cornwall – SCHEUERMANN’S DISEASE
“Andrea was recommended to me by a friend in Cornwall, so my expectations were quite high when I first met her on her move to Godalming. I have had neck/back/hip and leg pain for many years and various experts had failed to improve my movements or give relief from pain. I am unable to take painkillers and, after my first treatment, wouldn't have needed any. I have a treatment each month using one of Andrea's 'packages of 6' and I look forward to it, not only for the increase in mobility but for the feeling of complete relaxation and lack of stress which continues afterwards. She is a 'one off' and her treatments are tailored for your individual requirements. Let her help you as she helps me.”
Liz Harmon, Battersea, London – CHRONIC PAIN
“Andrea is very gifted! I saw her 8 times in the last couple of months at regular intervals and after the first appointment she had already made a big difference indeed. Trust is a big factor for me in choosing a complementary therapist and I felt very safe in her hands, especially when she was mobilising sore areas. Andrea takes her job very seriously and looks at the whole picture when it comes to your health and wellbeing. She is exceptionally professional, has a vast array of skills and is genuinely caring.”
